My Interest for genealogy and computing science gave me the idea to create special softwares for genealogy.
During 2 years of research, I discovered 1000 ancestors, starting with 10 known persons, and I wanted to share that with everybody, so I created my site.
After I understood the importance of the Gedcom format, I found several tools to set up my website, but none of them fully satisfied me. For that reason I had to do odd jobs using utilities to transform files.
I wanted to go one step beyond... My main frames knowledges were helpless, I took again my student clothes to renew my tool box : PERL, universal language for Windows Mac Intosh and Linux, the unavoidable HTM and its acolytes CSS, Javascript.
In 2000, the first version of Gedail was born, followed by many others and by the Gedpics program for pictures processing. In 2005, the 1.75 version of Gedail support all Gedcom fonctionnalities, the évolutions will henceforward concern more the form than the matter. Simultaneously comes the 2.00 version, that is a big shift, the command line mode and Notepad customisation, wearisome for newbees, could now be replaced by a user friendly interfacein windows mode (NB command mode is still allowed).
